Dear Sir / Madam,

 organize the International Scientific Conference

IVANA BRLIĆ-MAŽURANIĆ IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM
18-20 April, 2024
dedicated to the 150th anniversary of her birth

Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić is an internationally known writer of children’s literature, a famous storyteller, the first woman to become a correspondent member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, and one of the most translated Croatian writers. From 1892 to 1935, the author lived in the city of Slavonski Brod, where she wrote her most important literary works, and transferred her experience and experience of the city and its surroundings to the spatial, temporal and actantial realizations of her texts. Distinctive parts of the city left their mark in her literary works in the fiction, auto-fiction, epistolographic and journalistic part of her work.

Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić spent most of her life in the Brlić House, which is now open to the public, and is located on the central square that bears her name. Upon her marriage into the Brlić family, Ivana became part of the social life of the city of Brod, which makes her an indivisible part of its historical and cultural heritage. In the Brlić House, a magical world of stories was created, and the characters such as the tiny spirits, called the Brownies (Domaći), and Hlapić the Apprentice, came to life, while in the Villa Brlićevac, the plots from Croatian Tales of Long Ago were created.

In order to adequately celebrate the author’s contribution to the cultural and literary image of the city of Slavonski Brod, as well as to Croatian and international children’s literature, all interested scientists and experts in the field of humanities, social sciences and other scientific disciplines are invited to apply for participation in the scientific conference and to address the current ‘millennium’ questions and new scientific approaches to the life and work of a distinguished writer and to celebrate the 150th jubilee birthday of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić.

The lectures that are the result of an original and unique scientific or professional view of the author’s life and work, as well as the literary-theoretical and literary-historical processes of contextualizing and canonizing her literary work, and the translational and pedagogical-methodological reception of the literary production, are welcome at the conference.
